PEACHES
I've been waiting for peaches.
Each day, I check the bins.
Apples.
Bananas.
Grapes, I hate grapes.
Today I spotted the first of them.
Peaches, beautiful peaches, I've missed you.
Spent $3.25 for two of them.
And it was worth every sweet bite.
You don't always find such perfect ones.
And usually not until the full flush of summer.
Firm, but succulent.
That magic thing that happens
when the pulp hits your mouth.
Juices flow.
Nothing's as satisfying and virtuous as a peach.
And no peach ever tastes as good
as the first good one of the season.
